Arizona Taco Fest Welcomes Celebrity Chef Aarón Sánchez
The annual Salt River Fields celebration returns October 17–18 with two days of tacos, tequila, live entertainment, chef demonstrations, cocktail competitions and more
(PRESS RELEASE) – Tacos are taking center stage, literally. This October, The Arizona Taco Festival will debut an all-new Main Stage experience at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on October 17–18, 2026, bringing celebrity chefs, live music, cooking and cocktail demonstrations, and live culinary competition together as the centerpiece of the two-day festival. Among the first names announced is James Beard Award-winning Chef Aarón Sánchez, who will join the festival on Sunday, October 18, as a guest judge for the festival’s taco competition. Known for his distinctive approach to contemporary Mexican cuisine and his work across television, restaurants and culinary education, Sánchez brings a nationally recognized perspective to one of the festival’s signature competitions.
Sánchez is a James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur, Emmy-nominated television personality, bestselling author, entrepreneur and philanthropist, best known as the co-host of Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible: Last Call, a judge on MasterChef, MasterChef Junior and Chopped. He is the chef and owner of Johnny Sánchez in Louisiana and chef and partner of Adobo Cantina, a concept developed in partnership with Sodexo with locations at universities across the country. He is also the founder of the Aarón Sánchez Impact Fund, a program of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation that supports Latino youth through food, and serves as a partner and creative director of COCINA Media, a platform dedicated to celebrating Latin food and culture.
The new Main Stage will serve as the festival’s hub for live culinary entertainment, with chef demonstrations, cocktail experiences, competitions and more taking place throughout the weekend. Chef Beau MacMillan will return to host the second annual Arizona Taco Fest Bar Brawl, bringing together top local mixologists for a spirited competition showcasing creativity behind the bar. Additional Main Stage talent and programming will be announced in the coming weeks.
In addition to the excitement of the Main Stage, at the heart of Arizona Taco Fest are, of course, the tacos. Inventive creations from chefs, restaurants, and hand-picked street food vendors will keep the taco bar raised high, with offerings ranging from smoked tomahawk ribeye tacos and Asian-inspired creations to decadent dessert tacos.
New for 2026, live taco judging will elevate the competition, giving festivalgoers the opportunity to watch the judging process, cast their vote via QR code for the People’s Choice awards, and celebrate as cash prizes and trophies are awarded across taco categories and for Best Booth.
Returning as the festival’s featured partner, Tequila Corrido will be prominently poured at all main bars, alongside a range of cervezas and additional beverage offerings. The always-popular Agave Show returns with an expanded format featuring more than 20 tequila and mezcal brands, offering high-energy mixology experiences, guided tastings, and opportunities for guests to explore and learn more about agave spirits.
VIP guests will also enjoy premium amenities including shaded lounge areas with seating, elevated food offerings, and upgraded restroom facilities.
Beyond the culinary and beverage experiences, Arizona Taco Fest continues to expand into a multi-sensory festival environment with live art activations by XICO, a local Latino and Indigenous community arts organization; live cooking and cocktail demonstrations; curated vendor mercados; and family-friendly programming including carnival rides, lawn games, and bounce houses.
