The Power Lunch Is Back: Newly Restored Durant’s Steakhouse Now Open for Friday Lunches Beginning January 16th
Iconic Phoenix Steakhouse Reclaims Its Role as the Place to Work Deals at Lunch
(PHOENIX - PRESS RELEASE) — The power lunch has officially returned to downtown Phoenix. Following its landmark restoration, Durant’s Steakhouse is now open for Friday-only lunch service and reservations from 11:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., beginning Friday, January 16th, once again positioning the legendary steakhouse as the go-to destination for working deals over martinis and a Porterhouse for two. The launch of Friday lunch service follows Durant’s highly anticipated return to dinner service on December 17 after a year-long restoration.
Originally opened in 1950, the iconic Central Avenue restaurant enters its next chapter under the ownership of James Beard–nominated brothers Mike Mastro and Jeff Mastro, alongside their father Dennis Mastro and longtime business partner Scott Troilo. The ownership team—who also own and operate Dominick’s Steakhouse, Steak 44, Ocean 44, and Steak 48 and Ocean 48 in cities across the country—completed the restoration just in time for Durant’s 75th anniversary. The project focused on preservation over reinvention, ensuring the restaurant’s unmistakable character remains intact while elevating the overall experience.
Every element of Durant’s has been thoughtfully restored, from the dining rooms to the kitchen, including a brand-new, state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen, new signature red booths, refreshed red walls, refurbished vintage neon signage, and a newly repainted iconic pink exterior. The restaurant’s private dining room—closed since the 1970s—has also reopened.
The return of Friday lunch marks the comeback of the legendary Durant’s power lunch. For generations, the restaurant has been a favored meeting place for Phoenix’s business and civic leaders, and it is once again poised to be the place to meet, negotiate, and work deals over martinis, porterhouse steaks, and classic service—at lunchtime. Friday lunch service features the full Durant’s menu, including the iconic Porterhouse steak for two, Durant’s Prime Rib, caviar service, Lobster Thermidor, Crispy Veal Parmesan, and signature sides such as scalloped potatoes, mushrooms, and rigatoni vodka. This was really more of a restoration than a remodel,” said Jeff Mastro. “We preserved everything people love about Durant’s while enhancing the experience—and that includes bringing back lunch. Friday lunch is about returning Durant’s to its role as a place where people gather, connect, and work deals over great food and classic service.”
Reservations are now being accepted, and the bar will remain open all day from lunch service through dinner. As part of the restoration, Durant’s also refurbished the famed porterhouse plaques that have adorned the walls for seven decades, and the restaurant will continue to honor the beloved tokens that grant guests a complimentary dessert.
Leading the kitchen is the restaurant group’s longtime Chief Executive Chef Marc Lupino, working alongside Executive Chef Felix Ruiz. With the addition of the Mastro family’s award-winning culinary and hospitality team, guests can expect elevated service, refined operations, and luxury personalization—while preserving the timeless Durant’s experience.
