Cider Corps Opens Cidery Doors For Veteran’s Day

Cider Corps is opening the doors of its cidery to the public for a special Veteran’s Day Open House. This is the first public event for the Veteran-owned cidery in Downtown Mesa and will include small-batch hard ciders, mulled non-alcoholic cider as well as a food truck and tours of the facility. The cidery is at 31 S. Robson, just two blocks from the finishing point of the Mesa Veteran’s Day parade.

Owners and brothers Jason and Josh Duren will have a line of small-batch “Pie Ciders” available for purchase by growler or limited-edition crowlers including Mixed Berry and Pumpkin, along with Cold Brew Cider.  From 10 – 11 am, people can stop in for nonalcoholic hot mulled cider and coffee to go. After the parade, guests can come back for lunch and cider purchases.

The McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona create a breathtaking set for the much anticipated 7th Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships. It has become the country’s most attended polo event and the world’s most interesting, called by the Captain of the Wales Team “the best polo event in the world.” Enjoy elements like Prime: A Luxury Tent Experience by Steak 44, Neiman Marcus & Barrett-Jackson, The Bottled Blonde Polo Lounge Presented by Stella Artois, performances by the Phoenix Opera and Shakespeare in the Polo Park.  The event also welcomes Fried & Fizzy, a new pop-up restaurant featuring champagne and fried chicken by acclaimed local chef Michael DeMaria. 

One of the greatest American polo players in the sport’s history, and a fan favorite known for his aggressive style, polo legend Mike Azzaro will make his debut at the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships.  Inducted into the Polo Hall of Fame in 2013, Azzaro held the sport’s top ranking of 10 goals in 1994 for 14 years. He won seven U.S. Open Championships, third most of any players. He also won three Silver Cups, Butler Handicap, Iglehart, and World Cup. On Saturday, November 11th Azzaro will travel to Scottsdale and represent the Aspen Valley Polo Club, when the defending champions of the Molina Cup, led by team owner Melissa Ganzi, take on another first-time attendee, the Monte-Carlo Polo Club, in the featured match of the day starting at 2:15 p.m.

Slider Throwdown

The Slider Throwdown will take place at Kierland Commons on Sunday, November 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where local food trucks will compete for the title of Best Slider. Food trucks such as Aioli Burger, Two Fat Guys Grilled Cheese, Mango Flats, Cleveland Corned Beef, Food Diva, Head to Hoof, Left Coast Burrito, and Emerson Fry Bread will be offering tasty sliders.

The sliders will be judged by local “slider experts” as well as by the attendees via their People’s Choice votes. $30 includes admission, samples of all sliders and three drink tickets (non-alcoholic drinks). All proceeds from the event will benefit the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF). Presented by Scottsdale League for the Arts, this year’s star-studded soiree is going to be the biggest and best year yet. The Scotch Library at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa hosts the third annual Masters of Scotch Autumn Tasting Series. The tasting series provides a fun and informative evening in an hour-long presentations led by Scotch experts.  On November 16, James Chau will present a tasting of Ardbeg, which has been made on the small, remote Isle of Islay for more than 200 years.

The series concludes with local whiskey connoisseur John Christie presenting Balvenie, one of the best known whiskies hailing from the Scottish Highlands, on Dec. 14.

The Phoenix Pizza Festival is the first festival in Arizona dedicated to pizza!  A veritable pizza paradise awaits approximately 3,500 attendees who, for only $10, will have access to pizza vendors, dessert food trucks, related food vendors, lawn games, live bands, and a kid’s craft zone. Pizza makers will serve $2-$4 slices, full pies, and everything in between. Some of last year’s participants included: Fabio on Fire, La Piazza Al Forno PHX, Spinato’s, Rosati’s, Z Pizza, Fireside, Lacy & Wendy’sNello's, and others. The Scotch Library at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa hosts the third annual Masters of Scotch Autumn Tasting Series. The tasting series provides a fun and informative evening in an hour-long presentations led by Scotch experts. On December 14, local whiskey connoisseur John Christie will be presenting Balvenie, one of the best known whiskies hailing from the Scottish Highlands.

Cooks and Corks, a culinary celebration under the stars, brings together local cuisine, wine and the arts. Hosted by The Scottsdale League for the Arts and presented by Earnhardt Cadillac, Cooks & Corks will feature Arizona’s top local chefs in a culinary spectacle featuring live cooking, showmanship and artful presentation. To complement the flavorful tastings, guests will sip on libations provided by a superb collection of fine wines, spirits and craft beer.

Arizona Taco Festival

This October, prepare for one of the biggest and most exciting food festivals in the country held at Salt River Fields. Picture 50+ taco vendors slinging tacos, lucha libre wrestlers battling it out for supremacy, top mixologists shaking up creative margaritas in a spirited competition, live music, and more.  

The Taco Competition takes place both Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the competition, tacos are available for only $2 each to festivalgoers. Last year, the festival sold over 100,000 tacos to over 30,000 fans. Hit up the Tequila Expo on Saturday or the Margarita Expo on Sunday, the latter offering patrons the chance to sample margaritas from some of the top Valley mixologists. In Saturday's Tequila Expo, over 30 brands will pour over 100 tequila varieties to novices and aficionados alike.

Open daily from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Ahwatukee residents will be tempted to kick back and stay a while thanks to a Snooze's full coffee and cocktail bar, plus a fully-shaded indoor-outdoor patio where guests can play games such as cornhole or Jenga.

BBQ + Bourbon Special at Southern Rail: Every Monday and Tuesday

Every Monday and Tuesday, from 5pm-close, guests can enjoy a killer deal on a platter of barbeque, accompanied by two glasses of bourbon, for only $25 at Southern Rail.

The sharable tray includes meat with sauce and a side. Each week the platter will change - juicy, smoked meats will depend on Chef’s whim, and seasonal veggies will influence the side. Think sticky ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, classic BBQ sauce and a side of crunchy chow-chow, paired with a glass of bourbon or a classic Old Fashioned.  Guests can choose from a selection of 12 different bourbons, which can be enjoyed up, on-the-rocks, or in a cocktail like a Sazerac or Old Fashioned. And for those that are not lovers of the sweet brown nectar, the offer also extends to a bottle of wine (also from a select list), or two draft beers.

The Jazz & Jambalaya series invites guests to take full advantage of Arizona’s beautiful fall weather by sipping sazeracs and enjoying jambalaya accompanied by live jazz music. Sazeracs will be available for $7 while jambalaya can be purchased for $19, as well as ½ price bottles of Arizona wine. The regular menu will also be available.
