Every Monday and Tuesday, from 5pm-close, guests can enjoy a killer deal on a platter of barbeque, accompanied by two glasses of bourbon, for only $20 at Southern Rail.
The sharable tray includes meat with sauce and a side. Each week the platter will change - juicy, smoked meats will depend on Chef’s whim, and seasonal veggies will influence the side. Think sticky ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, classic BBQ sauce and a side of crunchy chow-chow, paired with a glass of bourbon or a classic Old Fashioned. Guests can choose from a selection of 12 different bourbons, which can be enjoyed up, on-the-rocks, or in a cocktail like a Sazerac or Old Fashioned. And for those that are not lovers of the sweet brown nectar, the offer also extends to a bottle of wine (also from a select list), or two draft beers.

JEREMIAH TOWER: THE LAST MAGNIFICENT, a film produced by Anthony Bourdain, is a character exploration of the legendary chef and the enigmatic mystery of his genius. It follows his career through Chez Panisse with Alice Waters, the opening of his Stars restaurant in San Francisco (which launched and influenced the careers of other eminent chefs including Mark Franz, Mario Batal, Emily Luchett, and Brendan Walsh), and his disappearance to what many viewed as a self-imposed exile. In 2014, Tower re-emerged in the most unlikely of places: New York City’s fabled but troubled Tavern on the Green restaurant.
Director Lydia Tenagli weaves a beautiful, poignant, universally accessible study of the longings and triumphs of the very large life of a gifted yet lonely artist. Interspersed among re-enacted portrayals of the bygone elegance of Tower’s youth, are moving interviews with Tower’s contemporaries and others – and, the sumptuous, mesmerizing beauty of Tower’s food creations. Jeremiah Tower: THE LAST MAGNIFICENT illuminates some of the mysteries and the demons that drive the passions familiar to anyone who has ever imagined themselves an artist.

1949 was a memorable year. The annual salary was $2,950 and the cost of a new house was $7,450. A gallon of gas was 17 cents and minimum wage was 70 cents an hour. George Orwell’s novel, 1984 was published and the first Polaroid camera was sold for a whopping $89.95. And Jack Grodzinsky, along with his wife and children, arrived in Tucson from Brooklyn, New York. Grodzinsky took a bus ride to Phoenix looking for a business he could purchase to help support his family. Grodzinsky decided on a restaurant and took over an existing space on McDowell Road and 16th Street. This mile long strip of land where the restaurant was established came to be known as the “Miracle Mile” and Miracle Mile Delicatessen was born.
The local restaurant is celebrating 68 years in business on Wednesday, May 10th 2017, and the city of Phoenix is declaring it Miracle Mile Deli Day.
To celebrate, 20% of the proceeds from that day’s sales will go to Feeding Matters, a local non-profit dedicated to raising awareness of pediatric feeding struggles. Also on that day, noon to 8 p.m. every hour, there will be a $100 gift card to Miracle Mile Deli given away to someone. People can stop in all day to register to win.
Miracle Mile Deli has been family owned and operated for three generations and continues to provide a unique experience in casual dining. Located at 4433 N. 16th Street in Phoenix, call 602-776-0992 or visit miraclemiledeli.com for more information about their story.
