ODV Wine Boutique Opens

Famed for her award-winning pastries and sweet & savory confections, chef Tracy Dempsey is expanding Tracy Dempsey Originals and at the same time adding boutique wines to the selection by introducing ODV Wines. Opening to the public on Saturday, August 19, ODV Wines will share the same free-standing storefront in Tempe (1325 W. University Dr.), and is located next door to the TDO Bake Shop and kitchen classroom that Dempsey originally opened in 2015.

ODV will offer an extensive selection of boutique and small of wines, with an emphasis on dessert-friendly rosés and sparkling wines, as well as more traditional red and white wines. "These are wines that you will rarely find at a big retailer," says Chuck Dempsey, "and that Tracy and I have personally fallen in love with and want to share with our friends and family."

Luci's at the Orchard Celebrates National Lemonade Day

Luci’s at the Orchard wants to celebrate by opening a lemonade stand inside their venue that day. A hundred-percent of the proceeds will go to local school, New Way Academy.

Tempe-based business, Sun Orchard Juicery, is donating the lemonade for the stand which will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. Suggested donation is $3 per glass of lemonade but donations of any size will be collected by kids running the stand and are encouraged in exchange for the lemonade. New Way has firmly established itself as Arizona’s premier K-12 independent day school catering to children with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD and executive functioning difficulties. Bite Nite, a benefit event for The ALS Association, Arizona Chapter, will take place in Tucson on Saturday, August 26 at the Westin la Paloma Resort and Spa from 6 to 10pm.  Introduced in 2014 by The ALS Association Arizona Chapter, Bite Nite has established its place as one of Tucson’s preeminent culinary events/fundraisers.  The event raises funds and awareness for ALS while showcasing signature dishes from top chefs across the Old Pueblo.  

Guests at Bite Nite enjoy signature bites from many of Tucson’s top restaurants, wine, spirits and craft beer tastings, live musical entertainment, and also have the opportunity to participate in the live and silent auctions by bidding a variety of restaurant gift cards/certificates, wine dinners, special mystery boxes and more.

On Friday, September 22, Mountain Shadows Resort will host A Night of Culinary Stars, an exclusive dining event benefiting the James Beard Foundation. The evening will begin with a reception filled with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from local chefs and restaurateurs, including Aaron Chamberlin (St. Francis, Phoenix), Dustin Christofolo (Quiessence, Phoenix), Lori Hashimoto (Hana Japanese Eatery, Phoenix), Branden Levine (Sel Restaurant, Scottsdale, AZ) and Beau MacMillan (elements at Sanctuary, Paradise Valley, AZ). Emcee for the evening will be CBS News Anchor Sean McLaughlin. Afterwards, guests will be seated for an extraordinary one-night-only dinner prepared by Taste America All-Star Traci Des Jardins (Jardinière, San Francisco), along with Local Star Nobuo Fukuda (Nobuo at Teeter House, Phoenix) and host chef Charles Wiley (Hearth ’61 at Mountain Shadows, Paradise Valley, AZ). On Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 the Scottsdale Firefighters Association will host their 17th annual Behind the Flames Scottsdale Firefighter Charities Dinner at Dominick’s Steakhouse.  The cocktail hour begins at 5:00 pm, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. The Firefighters Association will  present the Scottsdale Firefighter of the Year Award and honor the Inaugural C.A.R.E. Awards winner Tom Hatten, Founder and CEO of Mountainside Fitness. The SFA is also honored to welcome Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan and mother of Make-A-Wish child, Linda Pauling as featured speakers and guests of honor

Arizona Taco Festival

This October, prepare for one of the biggest and most exciting food festivals in the country held at Salt River Fields. Picture 50+ taco vendors slinging tacos, lucha libre wrestlers battling it out for supremacy, top mixologists shaking up creative margaritas in a spirited competition, live music, and more.  

The Taco Competition takes place both Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the competition, tacos are available for only $2 each to festivalgoers. Last year, the festival sold over 100,000 tacos to over 30,000 fans. Hit up the Tequila Expo on Saturday or the Margarita Expo on Sunday, the latter offering patrons the chance to sample margaritas from some of the top Valley mixologists. In Saturday's Tequila Expo, over 30 brands will pour over 100 tequila varieties to novices and aficionados alike.

The Phoenix Pizza Festival is the first festival in Arizona dedicated to pizza!  A veritable pizza paradise awaits approximately 3,500 attendees who, for only $10, will have access to pizza vendors, dessert food trucks, related food vendors, lawn games, live bands, and a kid’s craft zone. Pizza makers will serve $2-$4 slices, full pies, and everything in between. Some of last year’s participants included: Fabio on Fire, La Piazza Al Forno PHX, Spinato’s, Rosati’s, Z Pizza, Fireside, Lacy & Wendy’sNello's, and others. “Unwind, Revive & Ignite” with a celebratory weekend at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, Aug. 11 – 13, 2017.  The weekend kicks off on Friday, Aug. 11, with Buti Yoga taught by instructor Stephanie del Corral from 5 – 6 p.m., inclusive of a specialty cocktail.

On Saturday, Aug. 12, at 10 am join in “Masterpieces and Mimosas,” led by local studio, The Art of Merlot, which includes instructions and mimosas. The cost per attendee is $48.  Guests also can enjoy a Saturday morning 10 a.m. flow yoga class in the Movement Studio, inclusive of a mimosa following the class. The cost is $20 and it is open to guests of the property as well as local guests.  Jin the property’s onsite alchemist in the Spa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for an “Aroma Blending Bar” experience.  At 12 p.m., learn the ins and outs of cocktail creation with a “Modern Mixology” class. At 1 p.m., join in as sisters Giovanna and Regina Garcia lead a “Balanced Health” seminar ($30 for both seminars). Further indulge with a complimentary “Women-Led Wineries” tasting at 3 p.m for hotel guests. The class also is complimentary to those who attend the seminars.

That evening, Talavera features the #GirlBoss pairing dinner with Talavera Chef Samantha Sanz and Fat Ox Executive Chef Rochelle Daniel. The special tasting menu offers five courses for $85, with wine pairings available for an additional $40. A portion of proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus Pine Council..

Aridus Wine Company will celebrate the release of its highly anticipated 2015 vintage of Malbec at a special event on Friday, August 4, from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at its Scottsdale tasting room in old town Scottsdale. Guests will enjoy paired appetizers and live music by Saydi and Tanner Duo. The 2015 Aridus Malbec was made from grapes sourced in Cochise County (AZ). The wine won a Silver Medal in the 2017 San Francisco International Wine Competition.  The winery is also celebrating its first harvest of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier grapes from its estate vineyard in Pearce, Arizona, in the Cochise County appellation. Members of the winery’s club and their guests can attend the event at no cost. Seven Chef Fund-Up Dinner at Crudo

In a rally cry to support one of their own,the "Arizona Seven" are reuniting for the "7 Chef Fund Up" hosted in support of fellow chef Kelly Fletcher (formerly of House of Tricks, Zen Culinary) who recently fell seriously ill.  Hosted at Crudo restaurant in Phoenix, this event is the latest can't-miss culinary adventure from the collective known as the Arizona Seven, a rotating group of top local chefs. The Seven Chef Fund Up will feature Keenan Bosworth (Pig & Pickle), Cullen Campbell (Crudo, Okra Cookhouse & Cocktails), Jacob Cutino (Homeboy's Hot Sauce), Josh Hebert (Posh Improvisational Cuisine, Hot Noodles Cold Sake), Scott Holmes (Little Miss BBQ), Stephen Jones (The Larder + The Delta), Bernie Kantak (Citizen Public House, The Gladly) and Gio Osso (Nico, Virtù Honest Craft).

The event will be held on Monday, July 31 at 6 pm, where the Arizona Seven will host a Multi-Course Dinner at Crudo for $150++ p.p with 100% of the proceeds going towards Chef Fletcher's medical expenses. This one-night-only dinner will feature a menu penned by Chef Kelly Fletcher, but with each of the chefs doing their own riff on his dishes:

  • Crab, avocado cocktail with mango-tarragon gazpacho and whole grain mustard whipped cream
  • Seared scallops with summer corn pudding and asparagus-shiitake salad
  • Charred Korean octopus with sweet pickled Okinawa potato and crispy shallots
  • Grilled heirloom carrots with french feta, carrot & onion ash, local honey and berberre
  • Compressed watermelon salad, pickled peach, black plum, chèvre, sorghum-strawberry vinaigrette
  • Leg of lamb bolognese with goat cheese agnolotti, bacon-beet jam and fave bean puree
  • Pickled red shrimp, chilled pad thai noodles and shaved cucumber
  • Wood-roasted chicken with cauliflower gratin, tossed frisee and apricot-olive relish

The first Arizona restaurant to qualify for the Smart Catch designation from the James Beard Foundation, Breadfruit will orchestrate a four-course prix fixe dinner for this occasion, featuring creative dishes made with sustainably-caught seafood caught in an environmentally responsible manner. Serrallés will pair cocktails made from a selection of luxury Don Q expressions, including the recently-released, limited-edition Single Barrel 2007, to elevate each course. BBQ + Bourbon Special at Southern Rail: Every Monday and Tuesday

Every Monday and Tuesday, from 5pm-close, guests can enjoy a killer deal on a platter of barbeque, accompanied by two glasses of bourbon, for only $25 at Southern Rail.

The sharable tray includes meat with sauce and a side. Each week the platter will change - juicy, smoked meats will depend on Chef’s whim, and seasonal veggies will influence the side. Think sticky ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, classic BBQ sauce and a side of crunchy chow-chow, paired with a glass of bourbon or a classic Old Fashioned.  Guests can choose from a selection of 12 different bourbons, which can be enjoyed up, on-the-rocks, or in a cocktail like a Sazerac or Old Fashioned. And for those that are not lovers of the sweet brown nectar, the offer also extends to a bottle of wine (also from a select list), or two draft beers.

Real, Wild & Woody Beer Festival

Now in its fourth year, Real, Wild + Woody has fast become the city's marquee summer beer event, boasting countless specialty and small batch beer styles, bites from top area restaurants, live acoustic music and seminars (new this year), among other draws.

Tickets for Real, Wild + Woody are $57, which includes 20 drink samples and small bites from a variety of restaurants. Designated Driver tickets (no alcohol can be consumed) are $25 and include an assortment of small bites. Tickets are now available for purchase here.
